Saludos, es un verdadero placer para mí hacerte algunas preguntas, ya que Unto Others me parece una de las bandas más emocionantes de los últimos años. ¿Cómo se encuentran? El mundo parece haberse vuelto loco en los últimos meses, ¿qué visión tienes de tu país en relación con el resto del mundo y el incesante protagonismo de Donald Trump?
Gabe: Muchas gracias. No quiero comentar sobre política; con todo respeto, nos gusta mantenernos enfocados en la música.
España siempre ha sido una gran amante de la música gótica y oscura en general. A pesar de las diferencias de opiniones que tienen nuestros países, está claro que la música es un motivo de unión. ¿Qué expectativas tienen sobre sus próximas fechas en Madrid y Barcelona?
No tengo expectativas y no tengo diferencias de opinión con su gente que yo sepa. Los considero a todos ciudadanos del mundo. Como artistas, no tenemos fronteras.
Si sobre el segundo álbum de una banda siempre recae un peso notable para establecer su estatus, en un tercer álbum, ¿qué presiones sienten al componer y exponer sus pasiones? Supongo que están orgullosos de Never, Neverland, personalmente creo que es su trabajo más completo.
Muchas gracias. No tengo problemas para expresar lo que siento. La presión solo proviene de otros que tienen expectativas sobre mí y la banda, pero suelo dejar eso de lado si puedo. Al final del día, lo que hacemos es tocar música. Énfasis en tocar. Es por diversión, no es algo de una importancia trascendental en el gran esquema de las cosas, pero supongo que eso es subjetivo y depende de cada persona. Neverland es valioso para mí, como todos nuestros discos; vertemos nuestras vidas en la música y ustedes toman un sorbo.
Unto Others manifiesta claramente un parentesco con la fusión musical teñida de oscuridad de los inmortales Type O’Negative, como en “Flatline” o “Momma Likes The Door Closed” (tan funk como hardcore), pero también es notoria la influencia de bandas como The Sisters of Mercy (“Fame”) o incluso brillantes pasajes del lado más pop de The Cure. ¡Vende tu excelente álbum con tus propias palabras!
¡Creo que hiciste un gran trabajo por mí, para ser honesto! Todo lo que diré es que con cada álbum obtendrán algo que no esperan. Tomamos decisiones por amor, no por miedo. Por eso tienen canciones raras, porque solo nos estamos divirtiendo.
Por cierto, ¿has escuchado Songs of a Lost World de The Cure, su último álbum? Me parece un disco contemporáneo de gran valor con algunas composiciones grandilocuentes de Robert Smith. ¿Qué artistas o bandas citarías como tus principales influencias? Supongo que de España algo de Héroes del Silencio les habrá llamado la atención…
No, no lo he escuchado, solo soy un fan medio de The Cure. Me gustan los éxitos y algunos B-sides, pero no los escucho todo el tiempo. Héroes del Silencio, específicamente Senderos de Traición, es asombroso. Vocalmente impresionante, y espero poder ser tan bueno como él algún día.
Europa capitalizó el término gothic metal con una serie de bandas de gran renombre y popularidad variable, piensa en Finlandia, ¿estás familiarizado con esa escena? ¿Qué bandas te gustaban más? Hoy en día ya no existe un circuito tan masivo para este sonido, pero ustedes, así como The Foreshadowing o la revelación llamada Cemetery Skyline, están apostando fuerte por un glorioso regreso de la belleza y la melancolía. ¿Cómo te sientes al respecto?
Respeto a HIM y a Children of Bodom. Finlandia tiene música increíble. No sé si encajamos muy bien, pero el tiempo lo dirá. Creo que la belleza y la melancolía siempre han encajado bien juntas y nunca se han ido; es solo cuestión de si puedes capturar esa emoción y devolverla a la gente. Me hace feliz que nuestra música resuene con las personas. Si llegamos a ser grandes, ¡el tiempo también lo dirá!

Lux.- Greetings, it’s a real pleasure for me to throw some questions to you, since you seem to me one of the most exciting bands of the last years. How do you find yourselves? The world seems to have gone crazy in recent months, what vision do you get from your country in relation to the rest of the world and the incessant protagonism of Donald Trump?
Thank you very much, I dont want to comment on politics, with all due respect we like to keep it about the music.
Spain has always been a great lover of gothic and dark music in general. In spite of the differences of opinions that our countries have, it is clear that music is a reason of union. What expectations do you have about your upcoming dates in Madrid and Barcelona?
I have no expectations, and I have no differences of opinion with your people that I am aware of. I consider us all citizens of the world. As artists we have no boundaries.
If on the second album of a band always falls a remarkable weight to establish the status of this one, on a third album what pressures do you feel at the time of composing and exposing your passions? I guess you are proud of Never, Neverland, personally I think it is your most complete work.
Thank you very much, I have no problems expressing how I feel. The pressure only comes from others who have expecations of me and the band, but I usually brush all that aside if I can. At the end of the day what we do is play music. Emphasis on play. It’s for fun, it’s not wildly important in the grand scheme of things, but I guess that is subjective and also up for the individual to decide. Neverland is precious to me as all our records are, we pour our lives into the music and you take a drink

I think you did a great job for me to be honest! All I Will say is with each álbum you will get something you do not expect. We make decisions out of love, not fear. Which is why you get the wierd songs, because we are just having fun
By the way, have you listened to “Songs Of A Lost World” by The Cure, their latest album? It seems to me a contemporary album of great value with some grandiloquent compositions by Robert Smith. What artists or bands would you cite as your main influences? I suppose that from Spain something of Héroes Del Silencio would have caught your attention…
No I havent, I am only a médium cure fan. I like the hits and some of the B-sides but im not listening to them all the time. Heroes Del Silencio. Specifically Senderos De Traicion is amazing. Vocally astounding and I hope I can be as Good as him one day.

I have respect for HIM and Children of Bodom. Finland has amazing music. I dont know if we fit in very well, but time will tell. I think beauty and melancholy have always fit well together and never went away, its just whether or not you can capture that emotion and give it back to people. I am happy people resonate with our music. Whether we get big time will tell as well!
